The questions worth paying someone to answer
Most website decisions are made with incomplete information. A business owner gets three quotes ranging from 2,000 to 25,000 euros for what seems like the same site, with no way to tell which is reasonable. Another is told by their current developer that the site needs rebuilding, by the same developer who would do the rebuild. A third chooses a platform because a friend uses it.
Independent advice is useful exactly here. We look at what the site needs to do for the business, what you already have, and what you have been offered, then give you a direct answer. Sometimes the answer is a rebuild. Often it is that the current site needs three fixes and better content, which is far cheaper.
What a good brief prevents
Quotes differ wildly mainly because briefs are vague. "A modern website with a blog and contact form" can be built in a week or in three months, depending on what the person quoting imagines. The result is quotes that cannot be compared, and projects that run over because the real requirements came out halfway through.
A brief that lists pages, features, integrations, content responsibilities and what happens after launch makes quotes comparable and keeps the project to its scope. It also forces the decisions you would otherwise make in a hurry during the build, such as who writes the copy, who supplies the photos and who will update the site afterwards.
