Squarespace is a good choice when you want a polished site you can edit yourself and never need to patch. We pick the template that fits your content, adapt it to your brand, build the pages, connect your domain and email, set up the SEO basics, and show you how to make changes. Choosing the template by content, not by looks
Squarespace templates are beautiful in their demos, which is the problem. The demo was built around large, professional photographs and very little text. A business with a lot to explain and few good photos picks the most striking template and ends up with a site that looks empty or awkward once real content goes in.
So we choose the template by the content you actually have. How much text does each page carry? How many photos, and how good are they? Will you sell, take bookings or publish regularly? Since version 7.1, every Squarespace template shares the same underlying system, so the template is a starting style rather than a fixed structure. What matters is picking one whose defaults are closest to where you are going.
Keeping it editable
The main reason to choose Squarespace is that you can change it yourself. It is easy to undermine that with too much custom code. Every snippet of CSS added to force a detail the editor will not do is one more thing that behaves unexpectedly when you change the page later.
We use custom code sparingly, only where it makes a real difference, and document each piece. Everything else is built with Squarespace's own sections and settings, so the site you are handed is one you can confidently edit, extend and add pages to without calling a developer.
