About this service

You have a working site but need something it does not do out of the box. A custom product section, a different header on mobile, a pricing table, a filter, a change to how a page lays out. We make those changes in a way that survives theme updates, using child themes, custom sections or properly scoped code, so the next update does not wipe them out.

Why changes vanish after an update

The most common story we hear is this: someone made changes to the site, the theme updated, and the changes disappeared. The cause is almost always the same. The changes were made directly in the theme's files, and an update replaces those files with fresh copies.

The fix is to put changes where updates do not reach. On WordPress that means a child theme or a code snippets plugin. On Shopify it means custom sections and snippets, kept separate from the theme's own files where possible. On builders such as Elementor it means saved templates and global styles. It takes a little more care at the start and saves the whole job from being redone later.

Knowing when a customisation is the wrong answer

Not every request should be built. Sometimes the theme already does what is wanted under a setting nobody found. Sometimes an existing, well-maintained plugin does it better than custom code would. And sometimes the change fights the theme so hard that every future update will need checking.

We tell you which of these applies before starting. If a change would make the site fragile, we suggest an alternative that gets you most of the benefit. Where custom code is the right answer, it is written to be readable by the next developer, logged with where it lives, and tested against your other plugins.

What you get

Everything below is in the price. Nothing here is an upgrade.

  • Requested customisations built
  • Child theme or custom section files where needed
  • Backup before changes
  • Change log with file locations

What changes

  • Each requested change built and checked on desktop and phone
  • Changes made in a child theme, custom section or code snippet, never by editing the core theme
  • Theme and plugin updates can run without undoing the work
  • Every change listed with where it lives, for the next developer

How it runs

  1. Scope

Each change described, checked for feasibility and agreed before work starts.

  2. Build

Made on a staging copy, in a place updates will not overwrite.

  3. Check

Tested across devices and browsers, and against your other plugins.

  4. Log

Each change recorded with where the code or setting lives.

Questions

Which platforms can you customise?

WordPress with Elementor, Divi or block themes, Shopify themes, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow and WooCommerce. Each has limits, and we tell you early if something is not possible on yours.

Will theme updates undo the changes?

Not if they are done properly. We put changes in a child theme, custom section or snippet, which updates leave alone.

What if the change is bigger than expected?

We stop and tell you before going further. You get a revised quote or a simpler alternative, never a surprise invoice.
