About this service
A script that reads well on paper often sounds stiff out loud and asks for shots nobody budgeted for. We write in two columns, what is heard and what is seen, at a speaking pace of about 140 words a minute. Every scene is checked against what you can actually film or animate.
Writing for the ear, not the page
A script that reads well on paper often sounds wrong spoken. Long sentences that look elegant leave a presenter short of breath. Words that read clearly, such as figures, acronyms and brand names with odd spellings, trip up a voice-over artist. And a viewer cannot reread a sentence they missed.
We write in short spoken units and read every draft aloud against a timer. At a natural pace of about 140 words a minute, a 60-second video holds around 140 words, far fewer than most clients expect. That limit forces the cut that makes the script work: one message, said clearly, instead of five said quickly.
A script your budget can actually film
The most expensive script problem is a scene nobody can afford. "A busy city street at dawn" sounds simple and costs a location permit, a crew and an early start. "The product in use across three industries" means three shoots. We ask about the format and budget at the brief and write scenes that fit it, whether that is live action, animation, screen recording or a person talking to camera.
Scripts come in two columns: what the viewer hears on one side, what they see on the other. That stops the visuals from repeating the voice-over word for word, and it gives the director or animator clear instructions without a separate meeting. For social video, the opening five seconds work without sound, since many viewers will never turn it on.
- Live action: fewer locations, more close-ups, people who are available on the day
- Animation: visual metaphors that can be built once and reused across scenes
- Screen recording: the real interface, with the path through it scripted click by click
- Talking head: shorter takes, written in the presenter's own phrases

Questions
How long should our video be?
As short as the message allows. Ads usually run 15 to 30 seconds, explainers 60 to 90, demos two to five minutes. The brief decides it, not the budget.
Do you produce the video too?
Not in this offer. The script is ready for any production team, including ours under Video and Motion.
Can you write for a presenter who is not an actor?
Yes. We write in shorter sentences and with the speaker's own phrases, and suggest which parts work better as voice-over.
