About this service

Signs are read in a few seconds from across a street, a car park or a corridor. We design for that: few words, large letters, strong contrast and your logo used at a size that works outdoors. Files are prepared to your sign maker's specification, with dimensions and materials noted.

Distance decides the design

The most common signage mistake is too much information at too small a size. On a screen, a shop sign with the company name, a tagline, three services, a phone number and a website looks complete. On the building, read from a car or across a street, only the name survives, and often not even that.

A useful rule is that each 2.5 cm of letter height gives roughly 10 metres of readable distance in good conditions. We note the distances your signs will actually be read from, then set letter sizes to suit. Usually that means fewer words: the name, what you do in two or three words, and nothing else on the main sign.

Designing with the sign maker in mind

Sign makers often receive artwork they cannot use directly: logos as low-resolution images, colours specified only for screen, designs drawn without real dimensions. They redraw it, charge for the time, and the result drifts from what was approved.

We work to real measurements from the start and show designs on photos of your actual site or vehicle. Production files are supplied as vectors at scale, with colours specified for the material, whether vinyl, paint or illuminated acrylic, and a sheet listing sizes and fixing notes. Lit signs get a night view check, since colours that work in daylight can look very different when backlit.

Questions

Do you need planning permission advice?

We cannot advise on planning law. Many illuminated or large signs need consent, so check with your local authority or landlord before ordering.

Do you make the signs?

No. We supply the design and production files. Your sign maker manufactures and installs, and we can work with them directly on the files.

Can you design vehicle wraps?

Yes. We need the exact make, model and year so we can work from an accurate vehicle template.
