About this service

We build an online shop on WordPress and WooCommerce. That covers a fast theme, your products loaded with proper categories and variations, payments, shipping zones and tax rules set for the countries you sell to, and the emails customers receive. You own the site, the hosting and every plugin licence, and there are no platform transaction fees.

The plugin trap

WooCommerce's strength is its flexibility, and its weakness is the same thing. There is a plugin for everything, so stores accumulate them: one for product filters, one for wishlists, one for size charts, one for upsells, two for SEO because nobody removed the first. Each adds scripts and database queries, and after a year the shop is slow and an update breaks something every month.

We start lean. A lightweight theme, WooCommerce itself, a payment plugin, a shipping plugin if your carrier needs one, and a short list of others that each earn their place. Many features people install plugins for, such as product variations, basic filters and coupons, are already in WooCommerce. A store with fifteen well-chosen plugins is easier to keep running than one with forty.

VAT and shipping are where launches stall

Payments are usually the quick part. What holds up a launch is tax and delivery. A shop selling into several EU countries has to charge each customer the VAT rate of their own country once sales pass the EU threshold, and register for the EU OSS scheme to report it. Shipping rules vary by weight, zone and carrier, and a flat rate that looked sensible can lose money on every heavy parcel abroad.

We set these up from your real numbers: the countries you ship to, typical parcel weights and your carrier's rates. We cannot give tax advice, so we ask you to confirm the VAT position with your accountant, and then configure the store to match it.

Questions

WooCommerce or Shopify?

WooCommerce gives you full ownership and flexibility, with no platform fees, but you are responsible for hosting, updates and security. Shopify costs a monthly fee and handles all of that for you. We recommend based on how hands-on you want to be.

Are plugin licences included?

Paid plugins and themes are bought in your name, at their own price, and agreed before we buy. Many shops need none or one or two.

Who looks after updates after launch?

You, or us on a maintenance plan. WordPress and WooCommerce need regular updates, and a shop left unpatched for months is a security risk.
