About this service

PrestaShop remains common across European retail because it is self-hosted, multilingual and free of per-sale fees. It is also easy to overload with modules that break on the next update. We build on a current version and a maintained theme, configure carriers, taxes and payment modules for your countries, and document every module we install.

The module that breaks the next update

PrestaShop's flexibility comes from modules, and so do most of its problems. Stores we inherit often run dozens of them, several from developers who stopped updating years ago. When PrestaShop or PHP is updated, one of them fails and takes the checkout down with it.

We install as few modules as possible and prefer ones that are actively maintained. Every module is recorded in a register with its purpose, developer, licence and the version it supports. When updates come, you know in advance which modules need checking.

Selling across borders properly

PrestaShop handles multiple languages, currencies and tax rules well, but only if they are configured with care. VAT rules differ by country, carriers charge by weight and zone, and some payment methods matter in one market and are unknown in the next.

We set tax rules, carriers and payment methods per country you sell to, and test orders from each one. Translations are loaded per language with URLs that make sense to local customers and search engines. Your accountant should confirm the tax settings; we configure them to their instructions and test that invoices show the right figures.

For stores on old versions, upgrading in place is rarely safe. A clean installation with data migrated across gives you a stable base, and every old URL is redirected so you keep your search rankings.

  • Tax rules per country, confirmed by your accountant
  • Carriers priced by weight, zone and size
  • Local payment methods for each market
  • Translated URLs and content per language

Questions

Should we use PrestaShop or Shopify?

PrestaShop suits stores that want full control, self-hosting and no platform fees, and have someone to maintain it. Shopify suits stores that would rather pay monthly and never think about servers. We will recommend honestly.

Can you upgrade our PrestaShop 1.6 store?

Yes, though it is effectively a migration: data moves to a fresh installation and the theme and modules are replaced. In-place upgrades from very old versions rarely work.

Are paid modules included?

No. Module licences are bought on your account. We tell you which ones you need and what they cost before buying.
