About this service

Not a logo on its own, which is the thing most businesses buy and then cannot use. A kit: the mark in every format it will be needed in, a palette that works on screen and in print, a type pairing, and a short document that says how to use them.

A logo on its own is not usable

The most common thing we are asked to rescue is a mark delivered as a single high-resolution image. It cannot go on a dark background, it cannot go on a vehicle, it is illegible at the size a browser tab needs, and nobody has the editable file. The design was fine; the delivery was not.

A kit is the mark plus everything required to actually apply it: the variants, the formats, the colour values for screen and print, a type pairing that is licensed, and a short document that says which to use where.

  • Primary mark plus horizontal, stacked and icon variants
  • Full colour, single colour and reversed versions of each
  • Palette with print, screen and contrast-checked values
  • A type pairing with the licence cost stated before it is chosen
  • Guidelines short enough that people actually read them

Three directions, then one

Three genuinely different concepts at the first presentation, then one developed properly. Twelve variations of the same idea looks like effort and is a way of avoiding the decision; it also produces a brand designed by committee and liked by nobody.

Where an existing mark has equity worth keeping, we will say so and quote a refresh instead. Throwing away recognition you already paid for is expensive in a way that does not show up on the invoice.

What you get

Everything below is in the price. Nothing here is an upgrade.

  • Primary logo plus horizontal, stacked and icon variants
  • Full colour, single colour and reversed versions
  • Palette with print, screen and accessibility values
  • Type pairing with licensing noted
  • Guidelines document, and the editable source files

What changes

  • A mark that survives being small, single-colour and on a dark background
  • Files in every format, so nobody ever asks for a vector again
  • Colour and type decided once instead of per document
  • Guidelines short enough that people actually follow them

How it runs

  1. Understand

The business, the audience and what the current mark gets wrong.

  2. Explore

Three directions, genuinely different from each other, presented together.

  3. Develop

One direction taken to every variant, size and background it has to survive.

  4. Document

Rules short enough to be read, plus every file anybody will ask for.

Questions

How many revisions?

Three directions, then two rounds on the chosen one. Endless rounds are how a brand ends up designed by committee and liked by nobody.

Do we own the fonts?

You license them, and we tell you exactly what the licence costs and covers before it is chosen. A brand built on a font you cannot legally use is not delivered.

Can you refresh what we have instead?

Often that is the better answer, and it is cheaper. We will say so if the existing mark has equity worth keeping.
