About this service

We turn your figures into charts that show the point at a glance and do not mislead. That means choosing the right chart for the comparison, removing clutter, labelling directly instead of with legends, and styling in your brand. We deliver as images, editable Excel or PowerPoint charts, or interactive web charts.

The chart should say something

Most charts in business reports are made by selecting a range in Excel and pressing insert. The result is accurate and says nothing in particular: default colours, a legend the reader has to match up, gridlines, and a title like "Revenue by region 2023 to 2025". The reader has to work out the point for themselves.

We start with the point. What should the reader notice? That region three overtook region one in the second half. That costs grew faster than revenue. That one product accounts for most of the returns. The chart is then designed to make that obvious: a headline that states it, colour used only to highlight what matters, and labels placed directly on the data.

Honest scales and the right chart type

Charts can mislead without a single wrong number. A bar chart whose axis starts at 90 makes a 2 percent difference look enormous. Two lines on different axes can be made to look correlated or not, depending on scaling. A 3D pie chart distorts the slices nearest the viewer. Readers who notice lose trust in the whole report.

We start bar charts at zero, label dual axes clearly or avoid them, and choose chart types for the comparison being made. Change over time usually suits a line. Comparing categories usually suits sorted horizontal bars. Many series at once often work better as a row of small charts than one tangled one.

Questions

Why avoid pie charts?

People compare lengths far better than angles. A pie with more than three or four slices is hard to read; a sorted bar chart usually shows the same thing more clearly.

Can the charts update when the data changes?

Yes, if they are built in Excel, Google Sheets or as web charts linked to the data. Static images need recreating.

Do you analyse the data too?

We check it for obvious errors and suggest which comparisons are worth showing. Deeper analysis is quoted separately.
