The UX design process typically follows several phases. Research involves understanding user needs through interviews, surveys, analytics, and observation. Information Architecture organizes content and features into a logical structure. Wireframing creates low-fidelity layouts showing content placement and interaction flow. Prototyping builds interactive models for testing. Usability Testing validates designs with real users before development.
Good UX design is often invisible. When an app or website just "works" and you don't have to think about how to use it, that's the result of thoughtful UX design. Bad UX design, on the other hand, is immediately obvious: confusing navigation, unclear labels, frustrating error messages, and interactions that don't work as expected.
UX design is not the same as UI (User Interface) design, though they overlap. UI design focuses on the visual elements: colors, typography, buttons, and layout. UX design encompasses the entire experience, including the journey a user takes, the problems they're trying to solve, and how the product makes them feel.
